Who Is OSPREY?

OSPREY is a browser security extension available on the Chrome Web Store — currently protecting 10,000+ active users with a 4.9-star rating. Its purpose is simple but technically demanding: check every website a user navigates to, in real time, against threat intelligence data — and block anything dangerous before the page loads.

The quality of OSPREY's protection is entirely dependent on the quality of the intelligence data underneath it. Fast, accurate, noise-free threat data means fast, accurate, noise-free protection. Slow, inaccurate, or noisy data means a browser extension users eventually disable.

To find the best intelligence sources available, OSPREY did something rigorous: they tested 21 of them simultaneously.

The Integration

OSPREY integrated DentiGrid's threat intelligence datastore — alongside 20 other security systems from across the industry — and ran a 14-day live evaluation.

This was not a lab test. Every source was connected to OSPREY's real extension, serving real users, processing real threat queries in real time. The performance data came from actual usage — 54 MB of threat intelligence processed across the 14-day integration period.

Every source was evaluated on three dimensions that OSPREY's team defined as non-negotiable for a browser security product:

→ Integration ease: how long does connecting and maintaining the source take?

→ Data accuracy: how often does the source generate false positive reports?

Response Speed — DentiGrid: ~40ms. Everyone else: 350+ms.

In browser security, response time is invisible when it is good and catastrophic when it is not. A threat check that adds 350 milliseconds to every page load is a threat check that users disable within a week.

Every other intelligence source OSPREY tested — all 20 of them — returned average ping times of 350 milliseconds or above.

DentiGrid averaged approximately 40 milliseconds.

That is nearly 9× faster than the next best result in the test. In practical terms, it means OSPREY could run DentiGrid's threat checks on every page load without any user-perceptible delay. The protection is effectively invisible — which is exactly what good security should be.

Integration Ease — Fastest and smoothest to connect

OSPREY's team noted that DentiGrid was the most straightforward source to integrate among all 21 tested. Less setup time. Cleaner API behaviour. Less back-and-forth to get the connection stable.

This matters more than it sounds. Every hour a security team spends integrating a data source is an hour not spent improving the product. Across 21 integrations, the time differences compound. DentiGrid required the least.

Data Accuracy — Zero false positives across 14 days

This was the result OSPREY highlighted as the most significant differentiator.

Every other source in the test generated false positive reports at some point during the 14-day integration — flagging legitimate content as dangerous at varying rates. Some frequently. Some occasionally.

DentiGrid generated zero false positives across the entire 14-day period. 54 MB of threat data processed. Zero erroneous flags.

In browser security, false positives are not just an annoyance — they are an existential product risk. A security extension that warns users about safe websites trains users to ignore warnings. It erodes the trust the product is built on. A zero-false-positive intelligence source is the most valuable thing a browser security product can integrate.

OSPREY's overall assessment was unambiguous: among all 21 security intelligence systems they evaluated, DentiGrid performed best — on every metric.

What Happened After the Trial

The 14-day technical integration concluded successfully. DentiGrid's performance was confirmed. The integration itself was stable.

The partnership did not proceed to a long-term arrangement.

The reason was not technical. It was not commercial. It was a communication gap — the kind that happens when two teams are moving fast, working across different time zones and languages, and the back-and-forth needed to formalise a partnership falls through the cracks. Language was the primary friction point. The product worked. The conversation did not.
